Aerospace supplier quality refers to the practices, controls, and records used to manage the quality of suppliers that provide parts, materials, special processes, software, or services for aerospace production, maintenance, or sustainment. It focuses on whether supplied items and outsourced work meet defined engineering, purchasing, and quality requirements.
In manufacturing operations, aerospace supplier quality commonly includes supplier approval, requirement flow-down, first article inspection coordination, certificate and traceability review, source inspection, nonconformance handling, corrective action follow-up, and supplier performance monitoring. These activities are often connected to ERP, MES, QMS, PLM, supplier portals, and inspection systems so that purchase orders, drawings, revisions, inspection results, and quality records remain aligned.
The term is related to aerospace quality management standards such as AS9100 and first article inspection practices such as AS9102, but it does not by itself mean that a supplier is certified, approved, or acceptable for a specific program. It also should not be confused with procurement alone. Procurement manages commercial sourcing and purchasing activity, while supplier quality focuses on conformance, evidence, traceability, and quality performance.
