Stock accuracy is the degree to which inventory records match the actual physical stock available in a facility. It usually refers to both quantity and location accuracy, such as whether a part is present, in the expected amount, and in the correct bin, warehouse, line-side area, or work-in-process location.
In manufacturing, stock accuracy is commonly used in ERP, MES, warehouse management, and material planning contexts. Accurate stock records support production scheduling, kitting, purchasing, cycle counting, and traceability. In regulated or quality-sensitive operations, stock accuracy may also relate to lot, serial, revision, shelf-life, or status information, not just item counts.
Stock accuracy should not be confused with inventory value or inventory availability. A record may show the correct financial value while still having incorrect physical quantities or locations. Likewise, material may be physically present but not available for use if it is quarantined, expired, reserved, or awaiting inspection.
