Rework impact

Rework impact is the effect that rework has on a manufacturing operation, including cost, schedule, capacity, quality performance, and traceability. It describes the consequences of correcting or repeating work after a part, assembly, batch, or process output does not meet a requirement or expected condition.

In manufacturing systems, rework impact is commonly tracked through labor hours, added material use, delayed work orders, missed schedule dates, reduced yield, extra inspections, and cost of poor quality. MES, QMS, ERP, and analytics systems may use rework impact data to connect nonconformance events with production and financial effects.

Rework impact should not be confused with rework itself. Rework is the corrective activity performed on the product or process output. Rework impact is the measured or estimated effect of that activity on the operation. It is also different from scrap impact, where the item is not recovered through rework.
