AS9100 corrective action is the process used in an aerospace quality management system to address the root cause of a nonconformity and reduce the chance that it will recur. It commonly applies to audit findings, production nonconformances, customer complaints, escapes, supplier issues, or process failures identified in regulated manufacturing environments.
In AS9100-related workflows, corrective action usually includes documenting the issue, containing or correcting the immediate problem, investigating root cause, defining and implementing actions, assigning responsibility, and checking whether the action was effective. The records created during this process are often part of quality evidence used for internal review, customer communication, and audit readiness.
Corrective action should not be confused with a correction. A correction fixes the immediate condition, such as reworking a part or updating a record. Corrective action addresses why the condition occurred, such as an unclear work instruction, inadequate process control, training gap, or supplier process issue. The term is also related to CAPA and RCCA, but in AS9100 use it is specifically tied to the aerospace quality management system context.
