Knowledge Snippet

A knowledge snippet is a small, reusable piece of documented information that captures a specific instruction, explanation, decision rule, troubleshooting note, or process insight.

In manufacturing and industrial systems, knowledge snippets are commonly used in digital work instructions, MES screens, quality workflows, training systems, and internal knowledge bases. They help present focused information at the point of use, such as an inspection reminder, setup note, defect example, safety-related caution, or clarification of a routing step.

A knowledge snippet is usually narrower than a full procedure, work instruction, or training module. It should also not be confused with an execution record, audit record, or uncontrolled personal note. When used in controlled operations, a snippet may need ownership, version control, approval status, and linkage to the relevant process, part, operation, or quality requirement.
