NCR closure is the formal completion of a nonconformance report after the identified nonconformance has been reviewed, dispositioned, and documented according to the applicable quality process. It marks the point where the NCR record is no longer open for routine action.
In manufacturing and industrial quality systems, NCR closure commonly includes confirming the disposition of affected material or product, recording required approvals, attaching evidence, and verifying that related actions such as rework, scrap, use-as-is approval, supplier response, or corrective action linkage have been addressed as required by the workflow.
NCR closure should not be confused with corrective action closure. An NCR may be closed after the immediate nonconformance is dispositioned, while a related CAPA, RCCA, or 8D action may remain open if broader root cause or systemic corrective action work is still in progress. In MES, QMS, ERP, or supplier quality systems, closure status is often used for traceability, audit evidence, production release decisions, and quality performance reporting.
