NCR disposition is the documented decision for how to handle a nonconformance identified in a Nonconformance Report. In manufacturing, it defines what happens to the affected material, part, assembly, process output, or record after review.
Common disposition outcomes include rework, repair, scrap, return to supplier, sort or screen, use-as-is when allowed by the applicable process, or other controlled actions. The disposition normally records the decision, rationale, responsible authority, required instructions, approvals, and traceability to the affected lot, serial number, work order, or inspection record.
NCR disposition is part of nonconformance management and is often handled in MES, QMS, ERP, or supplier quality workflows. It should not be confused with opening the NCR itself, root cause analysis, or CAPA. Those activities may be linked, but the disposition specifically addresses the immediate control and treatment of the nonconforming item or output.
