AS9100 supplier quality refers to the practices used to control the quality of externally provided products, processes, and services within an AS9100-based aerospace quality management system. It covers how suppliers are evaluated, approved, monitored, and managed when their work can affect product conformity, traceability, or customer requirements.
In manufacturing operations, AS9100 supplier quality commonly includes supplier qualification, purchase order quality clauses, flow-down of customer or regulatory requirements, incoming inspection, nonconformance handling, corrective action follow-up, and supplier performance monitoring. It may also include records related to special processes, material certifications, first article inspection, delegated inspection, or outsourced manufacturing steps.
The term is broader than purchasing. Procurement focuses on sourcing and commercial execution, while supplier quality focuses on quality controls, evidence, and supplier performance. It also should not be confused with supplier certification; AS9100 supplier quality describes an organization’s supplier control process and records, not a guaranteed supplier status or audit outcome.
