Shop-floor execution data is the operational data captured as production, inspection, material movement, labor, and equipment activities are performed on the manufacturing floor. It describes what was done, when it happened, where it occurred, which resources were used, and what results were recorded.
In industrial systems, this data commonly comes from MES, digital travelers, work instructions, machine interfaces, inspection systems, maintenance systems, barcode or RFID transactions, and operator entries. Examples include operation start and stop times, completed quantities, serial or lot consumption, inspection results, nonconformance events, equipment status, and operator signoffs.
Shop-floor execution data is different from master data, such as item records, routings, work centers, or bills of material, although it depends on that master data for context. It is also different from high-level performance reporting because it is the underlying event and record data that reports, traceability records, quality evidence, and maintenance context may draw from.
Because this data can support production history, quality records, traceability, and system integration, it is often governed for ownership, timestamp consistency, access control, audit trails, retention, and alignment across MES, ERP, PLM, QMS, and equipment systems.
