Operations dashboard

An operations dashboard is a visual display that summarizes the current status of industrial operations. It commonly shows production progress, equipment state, quality signals, labor or staffing status, schedule adherence, and other key operating indicators in one place.

In manufacturing, an operations dashboard is often used by supervisors, operators, engineers, quality teams, and plant managers to monitor what is happening on the shop floor or across multiple production areas. It may draw data from systems such as MES, ERP, SCADA, QMS, CMMS, historians, or manual production records.

An operations dashboard is not the same as the underlying execution or control system. It usually presents information for monitoring and decision support, while systems such as MES, ERP, or SCADA manage transactions, workflows, equipment control, or production execution. Some dashboards include alerts or drill-down views, but their main role is to make operational status and exceptions visible.

Common examples include dashboards for throughput, work order status, downtime, scrap, rework, OEE, nonconformance trends, line clearance status, or bottleneck detection. In regulated or quality-sensitive environments, the usefulness of a dashboard depends on clear data sources, defined metrics, appropriate access controls, and traceable links to governed records where required.
