ERP MES duplicate records are repeated or conflicting records for the same manufacturing object across an enterprise resource planning system and a manufacturing execution system. The object may be a work order, material, lot, serial number, operation, supplier, tool, or quality record.
In manufacturing system integration, duplicates often appear when ERP and MES do not share a clear system of record, use different identifiers, or receive updates through inconsistent interfaces. A duplicate record may be an exact copy, a near match with different formatting, or a conflicting version of the same object.
This term does not usually mean that ERP and MES should store no overlapping data. It is normal for both systems to reference the same order, part, or lot when each system has a defined role. The issue is duplicate or mismatched records that make execution, planning, inventory, traceability, or quality status unclear.
Common controls include master data governance, identifier mapping, integration rules, reconciliation reports, and clear ownership for create, update, and close transactions. In regulated or quality-sensitive operations, duplicate records can affect confidence in traceability and record interpretation, but the term itself does not imply any specific compliance outcome.
